Kelsey & Cameron
October 27th, 2017
Have you ever met someone and knew that they were the one you are to share the rest of your life with? When Kelsey and Cameron met in college at THE Ohio State University, they knew they were going to be together forever. 8 long years later after moves to California, grad school, and getting into this adulting thing, Kelsey was READY for Cameron to propose. So ready that they had gone ring shopping together and every morning she would ask “Are you going to propose today?” Just hoping that one day Cameron would say that it was finally the day he would pop the question. When their 8 year anniversary came around Kelsey again asked her obligatory question and again Cameron gave the reply that today was not the day… but Cameron had a surprise up his sleeve. Sadden by his answer Kelsey proceeded to begrudgingly indulge in the anniversary day that Cameron planned filled with doing all of their favorite things like breakfast at their favorite restaurants and a trip to universal studios. As the end of the day came Cameron convinced Kelsey to go to one last stop to star gaze at Griffith Observatory. As they walked around Cameron dropped to one knee and popped the question. Kelsey, who had been waiting and asking daily, was actually shocked that this WAS THE DAY! She joyfully said YES with tears in her eyes!
From there these two California residents set out to take it back home to Ohio and create a unique bohemian industrial wedding ceremony in Cleveland. They choose a rooftop ceremony overlooking the water at Ariel International Center that turned out to be the most perfect, warm, sunny and calm day ever! I love that Kelsey and Cameron bought their bohemian industrial theme to life with her tiered V-neck dress with delicate lace details and a beautiful ceremony backdrop by Borrow Rentals utilizing copper piping and vintage windows and used oriental rugs for aisle runners. The Buckeyes celebrated their nuptials with laughter and fun as any Buckeye would. Scroll down to see more of Kelsey and Cameron’s dream fall bohemian wedding.
From The Couple:
What Was Your Favorite Detail of Your Wedding?
Kelsey-My dress. Oh man, I love that thing. It is hanging in our house so I can see it every day. Like ring shopping, I was very picky. I wanted my dress to be unique and I went ridiculous lengths to try on lots of dresses. So many of them were pretty, but they weren’t my dress. When I tried on my dress at LOHO Bride, I knew immediately it was the one. Cam– My burgundy suit. It made him feel unique too. Most grooms wear black, blue, or gray, we had a unique wedding so it was nice for me to be a part of that too.
How Did You Pick Your Wedding Date?
We always knew we wanted to get married in the fall because now that we live in LA, we never get see the leaves change anymore and this would give us an excuse to be in Ohio at that time. However, we also love college football which is played on Saturdays in the fall. We picked our wedding date based on Ohio State’s bye week (the week they don’t play). We had our wedding date long before our engagement. Our save the dates were Ohio State’s football schedule with our wedding listed on the bye week. I also gave my bridesmaids/bridesman yoga pants/basketball shorts and their college t-shirt since it was still game day even though my team wasn’t playing.
Did You Have Any Special Traditions?
There are a few pictures from our ceremony that show both of our families standing and forming a circle around us. They are being asked by name if they will do whatever it takes to support our marriage. It was an idea my father wanted at my sister’s wedding and we continued the tradition at ours.
Did You Have Any Gush-Worthy Vendors?
PAUL WOO! To see the uniqueness of Paul’s photo’s find him on Instagram @wanderingwoo and you will see just some of the beautiful images he’s created. Paul is exactly who you want standing next to you and your spouse’s side on your big day. Before my wedding, I was in a few as a bridesmaid, so I experienced many photographers. One wedding I was in the photographer started getting annoyed with the overzealous groomsman. Another the photographer gave us no direction on what to do, we’re not models and the lack of direction made an album of images where we are all just facing forward smiling. These were not qualities I wanted in my photographer. Cue my friend, Paul. Paul is so easy-going but gets the job done. He can laugh at the groomsman that is putting on a show, and then also get said groomsman to pause long enough to get an amazing photo. Paul will give you instructions so you don’t just stand there, but he isn’t bossy or pushy in any way. He will take a photo and you’ll think, “what on earth is he seeing” and then you will get your pictures back and your jaw won’t leave the floor. Paul is so light-hearted and happy which is especially helpful in moments that may be stressful. My cocktail hour was making me crazy, he grabbed us, got us wine, and we took some of my favorite pictures of the night away from the madness that was our cocktail hour. You’ll find yourself wanting him to stop taking pictures and just join you for a drink, besides marrying my husband, he was the best decision of the night!
TheFlowerMethod Sarah was my wedding florist. The only requirement I had for my wedding was to be unique. I wanted my wedding to become Pinterest pictures, I did not want to copy other people’s Pinterest pictures. Along those same lines, I know nothing about flowers and didn’t really want to learn. I sent Sarah pieces of my wedding like my dress, shoes, husbands suit, our arch, the Persian rug we were going to stand on, etc and I asked her to use these as inspiration to come up with unique flowers. Sarah went above and beyond. Her creative genius and love of being a trailblazer came out and her flowers completely enhanced my wedding and made it even better. Her flowers were unique and different and definitely are what people are going to copy on Pinterest.
What Was Your Favorite Part of Your Wedding?
This is the hardest question ever! Cam’s favorite part was the reception party–the reason you have the wedding (instead of just doing it alone) is to see everyone smiling and having a good time, and they were! My favorite part was sneaking away with Cam and the photographer, Paul, to get some of my favorite pictures of the night. The day was chaos (which was good) but that was a moment of calm and fun!
Do You Have Any Wedding Planning Advice To Give To Other Couples?
Get a planner. Not in your budget? Plan your budget around your planner. They know more and cheaper ways than you will find on your own.
What Do You Love About Each Other?
First and most importantly, we just love being together from laying on the couch watching tv to going on hikes. We like to be adventurous and super lazy. As long as it is together we are both very happy. Cam specifically loves Kelsey’s passion, loyalty, commitment to those she loves, if she cares about you she puts 100% of her heart into it. I will never for a second in my life doubt whether or not she loves me. Kelsey specifically loves Cam because he is the calm to my storm, no matter how worked up I get he can remain calm and comforting. He is also passionate and driven and when he says he is going to do something he does it to the fullest. And the man loves a clean kitchen, what’s not to love!? We both love very little more than our dogs Jovie and Arya. We both passionately love our Buckeyes and wake up on college football game days and watch from beginning to end. And ready for the most annoying response to “how did we know we were supposed to be together?” …You just know. More specifically, there has never been anywhere else we would rather be.
